ChatGPT Sign-Up With a Temporary Email: What to Know First

ChatGPT asks you to verify your email before a new account is approved, and a temporary inbox can show you that message. It suits a quick trial. It is a poor home for a long-term account, because OpenAI’s email-change rules need more time than a short session gives you.

Try the sign-up

1. Open tempgmail.io and copy the current address.
2. Go to chatgpt.com, choose Sign up and enter the address. Do not choose Continue with Google, because a tempgmail.io address is not a Google login.
3. Create a strong, unique password if asked.
4. Return to the inbox and use the verification email from OpenAI. If it has not arrived, wait a few moments and refresh before retrying.
5. Finish any remaining steps. OpenAI says phone verification is not generally required to create an account or use ChatGPT, though some products and API keys can require it.

Why you cannot move it to your email right away

OpenAI does let you change an account’s email on the web, keeping your chats and settings. However, you must wait 24 hours after creating the account and need access to both the current and the new inbox. A public address lasting minutes will usually be gone by then, and OpenAI says Support will not make an exception if you lose access to the current inbox.

So decide before signing up. If you might want to keep your chats, register with your own email now. Also note that the old address stays reserved for that account after a change.

Keep private information out

• Do not enter personal, work or financial details in a throwaway account. Your chats would sit behind an address you do not control.
• A shared address could receive login or reset messages for your account, so treat a trial account as disposable.
• Do not subscribe or add a payment method on this account.

Follow OpenAI’s rules

OpenAI’s terms require you to be at least 13, or your country’s minimum age, with parental permission if you are under 18. They also prohibit circumventing rate limits or restrictions, so new addresses are not a way around ChatGPT’s free usage limits.
